Why Your Period Might Be Late
Most women have experienced a late period at some point, and it isn’t always due to pregnancy. Some common reasons for a late period include:
- Exercise changes
- Weight gain or loss
- Stress
- Hormonal imbalances
- Anovulation
It’s best to take it one step at a time if you have a missed or late period, with the next step being taking a pregnancy test to determine whether or not you are pregnant.
Take a Pregnancy Test
Taking a pregnancy test, ideally one day after a missed period, is an accurate way to see if you’re pregnant. It’s worth noting that for some women, this may still be too early to receive a positive test result. If you receive a negative test, but your period doesn’t arrive, test again after a few days to a week.
Her Hope Pregnancy Center also offers no-cost, medical-grade pregnancy tests, which are highly accurate.
What Your Results Could Mean
If you test positive, we can also provide an ultrasound scan to confirm whether or not you have a viable and progressing pregnancy within the uterus.
If you test negative, then your period may be delayed and arrive after a few more days.
If you are not getting a period at all, or if it is irregular, talk with your OB/GYN about potential causes.
